Biography

Shuangyi Li is a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Literature at the University of Bristol. His research interests encompass global modernism(s), transcultural/translingual/exophone writings, international canon-formation, reception studies, literary semiotic translation, travel writings, literary exoticism, and intermediality. He focuses primarily on the literary perspectives involving word, image, and sound. Li has extensively worked on Marcel Proust, Victor Segalen, and contemporary Chinese diasporic writers and visual artists such as painters and filmmakers. He has edited a special issue of the Canadian Review of Comparative Literature titled 'Cultural Resonance Echo Chamber Reading' which promotes rethinking literary critical models through the perspective of sound. His recent interests include the mutual creative engagement of Chinese, Sinophone, Anglophone, and Francophone African writers. Li is active in the research community with ongoing projects and has received the Anna Balakian Prize in 2019 for his contributions.
