Dr. Shuangyu Li

Biography

Shuangyu Li is a Reader in Clinical Communication and Cultural Competency at King's College London. She has significantly contributed to the advancement of cultural competency and diversity education within UK medical schools. Her work includes the development of comprehensive curriculum modules on cultural competency and inclusive education practices, enhancing the cultural awareness of healthcare professionals. Li collaborates closely with academics, clinicians, and students to foster an inclusive educational environment that promotes innovative and diverse approaches to health communication. Her research focuses on the language and cultural discordances in clinical consultations, especially in interpreter-mediated settings. Li leads significant projects, including systematic reviews on cultural competency, and is an inaugural chair of a special interest group on Language and Cultural Discordance in Healthcare Communication. She has notably published works that address the challenges and opportunities in culturally diverse medical contexts and is actively involved in PhD supervision for students interested in medical discourses and cultural competence. Her dedication is evident in her leadership role in various initiatives aligned with King’s Internationalisation Strategy, aiming to integrate cultural competency into the fabric of medical education and practice.
