Biography

Shuta Ishibe is a Professor in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Physiology at Yale University. His major research interests include the endocytic processes and matrix regulation of podocytes, specialized epithelial cells that maintain the glomerular filtration barrier. His laboratory has identified the critical roles of clathrin-coated endocytic processes in the development and maintenance of podocytes. Through in-vivo animal models, Dr. Ishibe investigates genes implicated in endocytosis, finding severe proteinuria and foot process effacement in conditional ablation studies. His current research focuses on the role of cell-matrix interactions and the pathology of podocyte injury, proteinuria, and nephrotic syndrome, utilizing mouse genetic models to explore therapeutic targets. Dr. Ishibe has collaborated with other researchers to establish a network of proteins associated with human genetic studies and their implications in nephrotic syndrome, aiming to provide mechanistic insights into focal adhesion proteins that govern podocyte adherence and signaling.
