Biography

Shuting Zheng is a developmental scientist and board-certified behavior analyst with expertise in the assessment and treatment of children and youth with autism spectrum disorder. Zheng completed her doctoral training in applied developmental science and special education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also received a dual bachelor's degree in psychology and English from Beijing Normal University in China. Her research focuses on understanding the developmental heterogeneity of autism to improve the individualization of treatment. Zheng's current research program emphasizes the design and application of behavioral measures that consider various individual characteristics such as biological sex, cognitive and language abilities, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, as well as their impact on autism symptoms and related challenges. Through qualitative and quantitative investigations, her work aims to identify both risk and resilience factors that affect the psychological well-being and functional outcomes of autistic individuals. Zheng has received multiple grants from federal and private funders, including the National Institute of Mental Health and the Autism Science Foundation.
