Shweta Gautam is a molecular biologist with a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics from The University of New South Wales. Her research focuses on gastrointestinal viral oncology, specifically studying the association of human papillomavirus-related biomarkers with oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Currently a postdoctoral researcher at the South West Clinical School, Ingham Institute, Liverpool, she investigates the multiomic signatures of HPV-associated viral negative oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Her earlier doctoral research explored the sequence preference of the anti-cancer drug bleomycin and gamma radiation on telomeric-rich plasmid DNA sequences, demonstrating specific cleavage patterns in human cells. Her work has provided critical insights into DNA sequence specificity and the effects of therapeutic agents on cancer biology. With extensive postgraduate research experience in India, she has also worked in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Histopathology.
