Shyan Vijayasekaran grew up in Perth and graduated with distinctions in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Western Australia. He underwent specialized training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in both London and Perth. After completing his Fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology with Professor Robin Cotton at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, USA, he became the current president of the Australia New Zealand Society of Paediatric Otolaryngology. His PhD thesis focused on complex airway and swallowing disorders in children. Dr. Vijayasekaran's clinical research interests include sleep disorders, airway management, voice disorders, swallowing issues, management of hearing loss, and chronic otitis media related language delay. He has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to numerous textbooks, in addition to being a sought-after speaker at both national and international conferences. He dedicates one month each year to providing voluntary medical care in hospitals located in low and middle-income countries. Outside of his professional life, Shyan enjoys spending time with his four teenage children and engaging in music, travel, reading, yoga, and beach meditation.
