Biography

Shyni Varghese is the Laszlo Ormandy Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University. She holds a triple appointment as a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, and is also affiliated with the Duke Regeneration Center. Varghese is a MEDx Investigator focusing on biomaterials and stem cells. Her research primarily revolves around musculoskeletal tissue repair, disease biophysics, and organ-on-a-chip technology, which is an innovative initiative under the Pratt School of Engineering and Duke School of Medicine. The aim of Duke MEDx is to enhance and foster new collaborations between doctors and engineers. She obtained her Ph.D. from the National Chemical Laboratory in India in 2002. Throughout her career, Varghese has contributed significantly to advancing the fields of biomedical engineering and orthopaedics through her research and teaching endeavors.
