Dr. Siavash Vahidi

Biography

Siavash Vahidi is an Assistant Professor in the College of Biological Science at the University of Guelph, specializing in the structure and dynamics of large biomolecular complexes. His research focuses on protein degradation mechanisms, particularly in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a significant pathogen responsible for tuberculosis. Dr. Vahidi's academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the National University of Iran, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario. He advanced his expertise through postdoctoral research at the University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children, where he explored innovative techniques in biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and cryomicroscopy. Dr. Vahidi has received the Paul de Mayo award for his outstanding Ph.D. thesis and continues to share his extensive knowledge with students and researchers, preparing them for careers in biological and chemical research. His lab develops advanced methods such as mass spectrometry and NMR to answer critical biological questions and is committed to training students in a range of scientific methodologies. His work aims to better understand protein homeostasis and the mechanisms of antibiotic action.
