Biography

Sid Banerjee joined the faculty at Cornell University in July 2015 as an Associate Professor in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013. Prior to his faculty position, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Social Algorithms Lab at Stanford University from 2013 to 2015. Before that, he gained experience as a technical consultant for Lyft in 2014 and interned at the Technicolor Paris Research Lab and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs in 2009 and 2011 respectively. His research interests revolve around stochastic modeling and design algorithms for large-scale systems, especially in settings where agents interact and communicate within social networks. His work encompasses online marketplace design, control of information flows, large-scale computing within social networks, and learning-based recommendation systems on the internet. Recent research includes developing incentive mechanisms for collaborative platforms, analyzing the dynamic pricing strategies of ridesharing platforms like Uber and Lyft, and creating scalable algorithms for personalizing web searches.
