Dr. Siddharth Banka

Biography

Dr. Siddharth Banka is a Consultant Clinical Geneticist and Professor in Genomic Medicine at the University of Manchester. His expertise lies in rare genetic conditions, which collectively affect about 5% of the population. With over 50% of patients suspected of having genetic disorders remaining unsolved through whole genome sequencing, Dr. Banka focuses on identifying novel diseases and uncovering the mechanisms that drive these rare disorders. His current research programs include innovative genomic data analysis and multi-omic approaches to improve diagnosis and discover novel disorders. He utilizes model systems to comprehend chromatinopathies and metabolic disorders to develop new treatments. As the Clinical Director of the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre, he aims to enhance the lives of individuals with rare conditions through clinics, research, education, and advocacy. Additionally, Dr. Banka leads multiple national and international collaborations, including the MRC/NIHR EpiGenRare Node and the NHS Rare and Inherited Disease Genomics Network. His educational contributions include supervising various postgraduate and undergraduate programs at the University of Manchester, and he is actively involved in organizing international training courses in clinical genetics. Dr. Banka has published extensively on rare genetic diseases, contributing significant insights into the clinical characterization and guidelines for diagnosis and management.
