Dr. Siegfried Hecker

Biography

Siegfried Hecker is a Professor of Practice in Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University, where he is also a Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has extensive experience in nuclear security and strategic stability. Dr. Hecker has contributed significantly to the fields of nuclear nonproliferation, arms control, plutonium science, and nuclear energy, with a strong focus on countering nuclear terrorism. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Metallurgy from Case Western Reserve University, where he also obtained his M.S. and B.S. degrees. Dr. Hecker has been recognized with numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the Presidential Enrico Fermi Award and the National Engineering Award from the American Association of Engineering Societies. He is a fellow of several prestigious societies and serves on advisory boards such as the Nuclear Threat Initiative and the Council on Foreign Relations.
