Biography

Signe Sørensen Torekov holds an M.Sc. in Human Biology and a PhD. She is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in Clinical Translational Metabolism. As the leader of her research group, she conducts numerous clinical investigations focusing on the prevention and treatment of obesity and achieving lasting healthy weight loss. Her research includes studying the role of metabolic hormones in the development and maintenance of obesity, as well as how genetic changes affect the development of obesity and diabetes. Additionally, Professor Torekov is involved in teaching pathophysiology and endocrinology to medical students and serves as a course director for various subjects, including 'Diabetes – a global challenge' on Coursera. Her primary research interests revolve around the development and treatment of obesity, the biological mechanisms of weight loss and weight regain, as well as translational research related to the genetic background of obesity and diabetes.
