Biography

Sigrid Schottenius Cullhed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Literature and Rhetoric at Uppsala University. She will serve as an affiliated visiting scholar at the Oxford Centre for Late Antiquity in spring 2025. Her research interests include gender history, digital humanities, philology, French literature, hermeneutics, cultural history, classical studies, comparative literature, reception history, Swedish literature, medical narratology, and English literature. She chaired the Centre for Medical Humanities at Uppsala University and has been active in various research projects, including the 'MotherNet' project, which focuses on contemporary European motherhood. Prior to her current position, she was an Academy Researcher exploring late antiquity's scholarly imagination. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Gothenburg and a Master's degree in Comparative Literature from Stockholm University. Her dissertation, which examines the work of late Roman poet Faltonia Betitia Proba, has contributed significantly to the field. Cullhed’s ongoing research addresses the literary narratives of sexual violence and its representation in both ancient and contemporary contexts, utilizing (post-) narratological and reception-historical methods.
