Biography

Sikhumbuzo Mabunda is a South African trained Public Health Medicine physician with over 10 years of research experience in African health systems. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales focused on improving the understanding of how African governments design and implement health professional training policies aimed at enhancing care provision for underserved populations in selected Southern African countries. Recently, his research has expanded to South East Asia, aiming to draw lessons from the strengths of those health systems to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases. Additionally, he is an experienced manager in South Africa’s public health sector and currently serves as a member of the Mpumalanga provincial Premier’s Advisory Committee on health. His academic and professional interests encompass the fields of Health Systems, Human Resources for Health, Non-communicable Diseases, HIV, and Tuberculosis.
