Dr. Sile O Modhrain

Biography

Sile O’Modhrain is a professor at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance, with a focus on Performing Arts Technology. Her experience includes being a researcher and faculty member both in the U.S. and abroad, notably at the prestigious MIT Media Lab and Media Lab Europe, as well as at the Sonic Arts Research Center at Queen’s University of Belfast. She has worked as an audio engineer and program producer for BBC Radio. Her research primarily explores haptics, the use of touch gestures, and their relationship to music performance, alongside the development of new technology-enhanced instruments that extend the boundaries of musical expression. With a comprehensive background in audio, psychoacoustics, computer music, cognition, and gestural control in music, she is internationally known and respected in her field, as evidenced by her record of scholarly accomplishments in well-regarded journals and frequent speaking engagements at international conferences.
