Professor Dr. Silke Knippschild

Biography

Silke Knippschild is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol specializing in Ancient History. Her primary research interests focus on intercultural relations and cross-cultural influences in Ancient Western Asia, Greece, and Rome. She adopts an interdisciplinary approach, integrating written, art historical, and archaeological sources in her work. Dr. Knippschild's research explores the reception of antiquity in visual and performing arts. In her teaching, she emphasizes critical moments in Ancient Greek history, involving the Homeric epics and the Hellenistic World as well as the cultural context of Achaemenid Persia and material culture. She is open to supervising prospective research students interested in these areas.
