Biography

Sílvia Costa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Innovation Management & Strategy at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. She obtained her PhD in 2015 from ISCTE-IUL in Lisbon, Portugal, where her doctoral thesis focused on entrepreneurial cognition. Sílvia's research explores the intricate dynamics of entrepreneurial thinking, particularly the relationship between emotions and cognitive processes in entrepreneurship. Her work sheds light on the cognitive mechanisms that underlie the identification of new venture ideas and the emotional factors influencing entrepreneurial endeavors. Sílvia has a broader interest in various aspects of entrepreneurial activity, including emotional dynamics within entrepreneurial teams and the determinants of entrepreneurial wellbeing. Methodologically, she employs experimental designs to advance entrepreneurship research. Sílvia has published in leading journals such as Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management, and Journal of Social Entrepreneurship. Currently, she serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Business Management and is a board member of the European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, where she helps coordinate the ECSB Special Interest Group on conducting experiments in entrepreneurship research.
