Dr. Silvia De Ascaniis

Biography

Silvia De Ascaniis is a lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Lugano, Switzerland. She holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from USI, with a focus on pragmatic argumentative aspects of Online Travel Reviews. Her professional journey includes roles as an instructional designer at eLab, assistant director of the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society at USI, and a visiting scholar at the University of Wollongong in Australia. Her research interests lie at the intersection of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) and cultural tourism, particularly exploring the use of ICTs in promoting tangible and intangible cultural heritage. De Ascaniis co-leads a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation focused on science communication in a historical context and has been involved in developing Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) related to eTourism. She has led significant initiatives such as #faces4heritage, aimed at addressing youth engagement against violent extremism. She is actively engaged in analyzing communicative strategies used by family associations in Italy.
