Biography

Silvia Ferrari is an Associate Dean for Cross-Campus Engineering Research at Cornell Tech and a Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell Engineering. She previously served as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. Silvia is the founder and director of the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship fellowship program focused on Wireless Intelligent Sensor Networks and has authored the book "Information-Driven Path Planning Control." She has also delivered a TED talk titled "Do Robots Dream Electric Sheep?" Silvia holds a B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. She is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a senior member of the IEEE, and a member of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Her accolades include the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, the NSF CAREER Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and Excellence in Teaching Award from Cornell College of Engineering. Currently, she directs the Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Controls at Cornell University and serves as co-director of the Cornell-Unibo Věho Institute for Vehicle Intelligence at Cornell Tech.
