Dr. Silvia Pedraza

Biography

Silvia Pedraza is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research interests encompass immigration, race, and ethnicity, with a particular focus on the experiences of Latinas/os in the United States. She examines the social and political implications of migration and has published extensively in this field. Pedraza's notable works include 'Political Disaffection: Cuba's Revolution Exodus' (2007) and 'Revolutions: Cuba and Venezuela' (2023). She is actively involved in academic governance, having served as chair of several sections of the American Sociological Association and the executive committee of the Social Science History Association. Her teaching covers various sociological perspectives on American immigration and the social issues affecting Latino communities. Presently, she is finalizing an edited collection on religion and immigration in the Latino context, contracted with Oxford University Press.
