Simeon Nichter's research explores political voice and the political influence of poor marginalized populations within emerging democracies, with a central focus on Latin America. His work examines how politicians provide material benefits to the poor in exchange for political support and investigates how individual vote choices can affect subsequent access to services. He has previously served as an Academy Scholar at the Harvard Academy for International Area Studies and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University, as well as at the Center for Global Development. Nichter earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, his MPA in International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School, and his BA in Economics from Carleton College.
