Biography

Simon Behrman is a Reader and Co-Director of Student Wellbeing (PGT) at the University of Warwick. His primary research interests lie in asylum and refugee law, particularly focusing on climate refugees and the asylum situations in South Asia including Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. He studied Law at Birkbeck, University of London, where he earned his PhD, exploring the history of asylum, refugee law, and sanctuary movements. Simon has published extensively on related themes and has worked closely with international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration and the Platform on Disaster Displacement. His past initiatives include a joint project with the British Red Cross aimed at educating young people about various aspects of refugee law and experience. Before joining Warwick, Simon taught at Birkbeck, the University of East Anglia, and Royal Holloway, and has held a Visiting Lecturer position at LUISS in Rome. He welcomes enquiries from prospective PhD supervisees, aligning their research proposals with his interests and specialisms in topics such as the relationship between Islamic and secular law, international human rights law, and international criminal law.
