Biography

Simon Black is an Associate Professor in the Department of Labour Studies at Brock University. He holds a B.A. (Hons) in sociology from the University of Toronto, an M.A. in labour studies from McMaster University, and a Ph.D. in political science from York University. His research focuses on the political economy of work and care, exploring issues related to community-labour coalitions, community unionism, and alternative labour movements, particularly in the context of neoliberal reforms in the child care sector. Black has published works such as 'Social Reproduction City: Welfare Reform, Child Care, Resistance in Neoliberal New York' through the University of Georgia Press. Currently, his work examines the regulation of domestic work and the organizing and collective action of domestic workers. He is associated with the Canada-Caribbean Institute at Brock University.
