Dr. Simon Bush

Biography

Simon Bush is the Professor and Chair of Environmental Policy at Wageningen University, where he leads the Environmental Policy Group. His main research interests are focused on the global dimensions of sustainable marine and aquatic food governance, particularly within aquaculture and fisheries. He engages broadly in research that governs the interactions among sustainable food, energy, and biodiversity, which involves a significant number of PhD students within his group. Simon has been involved in multiple projects such as the CircAqua project, which develops offshore low trophic aquaculture in the North Sea, and the BeWild project, which explores the role of e-DNA monitoring in biodiversity assessments at offshore wind energy parks. He has also contributed to collaborations with organizations like the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, working on guidelines for aquaculture co-management as well as healthy diets and food systems transformation. In addition to his research, Simon serves on several academic and advisory boards and has held leadership roles in various initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainable seafood practices.
