Dr. Simon Chu completed his PhD at Prince Henry’s Institute in 2005, focusing on the roles of estrogen receptor signaling in the pathogenesis of a subset of ovarian tumors, particularly the impact of molecular signaling pathways on cell receptors. Following his doctoral research, Dr. Chu continued his work at the Prince Henry’s Institute examining the consequences of blocking estrogen receptors using new therapeutic compounds as a potential new chemotherapeutic approach for treating ovarian cancer. In 2007, he took a postdoctoral position at the Pasteur Institute in Cambodia, where he developed a new molecular technique to investigate the incidence and exposure of avian influenza in the human population. Upon returning to Australia in April 2009, Dr. Chu joined the Prince Henry’s Institute as an OCRF L’Oreal Paris Research Fellow, focusing on the underlying causes of granulosa cell tumors, a common type of ovarian cancer. He is actively investigating innovative therapeutic options for treating ovarian cancer, utilizing combination treatments targeting significant biological pathways involved in cancer cell proliferation.
