Biography

Simon Cornielje is an Endowed Professor of Indirect Tax Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He obtained his Law Degree from Maastricht University in 2007 and completed his doctorate with a thesis on 'Mergers Acquisitions European VAT' at Tilburg University in 2016. With 15 years of experience as an indirect tax advisor at PwC in Amsterdam, Simon is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences focused on European VAT law. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications and contributed to the 'Handbook Fundamentals EU VAT Law' as well as the 'Cursus Belastingrecht Omzetbelasting Europees Belastingrecht'. In recognition of his academic writing excellence in tax law, he was awarded the Stevens-award ('Stevensprijs') in 2019. Simon is also involved in ancillary activities such as serving as a substitute judge at the Breda District Court.
