Dr. Simon Cox

Biography

Simon Cox is a Professor at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in Brain Cognitive Ageing as part of his role within the Lothian Birth Cohort Studies group. His research interests include understanding the factors that influence cognitive ageing and the neural mechanisms that underlie complex cognitive abilities. He has been involved in several significant projects funded by organizations such as the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust, aimed at examining aspects of neurodevelopment and cognition, especially in relation to preterm birth and biological ageing. His work leverages large-scale genomic analyses and imaging techniques to study ageing-related cognitive changes prior to dementia onset, and he has a particular focus on longitudinal studies that investigate changes in the human structural connectome over time. Over the years, he has supervised numerous PhD students and has contributed substantially to the understanding of cognitive ageing through various research endeavors.
