Dr. Simón Díaz Quezada

Biography

Simón Diego Díaz Quezada is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalborg University, where he works on the CORNERSTONE project funded by the European Union, focusing on advancing sustainable separation technologies. He has a strong emphasis on modeling, simulation, and optimization of process systems. Before this role, he was part of the Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC) in Chile, where he established and led the modeling and simulation team in the Process Development Group. Simón managed a team of six engineers and led research into innovative technologies for hydrometallurgy, membrane-based separation, water recovery, lithium brine extraction, solvent extraction, chloride leaching, and copper bioleaching. His work combines phenomenological modeling with computational tools to support process scale-up, engineering design, and control strategy development. He has authored 16 peer-reviewed publications and delivered 16 conference presentations while being involved in 23 applied research projects. He has also taught university-level courses on process control and heat transfer related to lithium mining. In addition, he is proficient in MATLAB-Simulink and Python and has served as a volunteer firefighter in Maipú since 2009, demonstrating his commitment to community and teamwork.
