Biography

Simon Driver is an astronomer who studies the evolution of mass, energy, and structure from the Big Bang to the present day. He attained his PhD from the University of Wales College of Cardiff in Astrophysics in 1994. Driver has held Research Associate and Fellow positions at Arizona State University, University of New South Wales, and Australian National University. He spent eight years at the University of St Andrews as a Lecturer, Reader, and Professor before moving to the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2011 as a Winthrop Research Professor in the School of Physics. He leads the Distant Universe Science Unit at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). His research involves combining ground-based imaging and space-based data, utilizing telescopes from ESA and NASA to form an empirical blueprint of the Universe's evolution. Driver is also the principal investigator for several notable projects including the Galaxy Mass Assembly and Wide-Area VISTA Extragalactic Surveys, with over 300 refereed publications and 28,000 citations. He has served on several prestigious councils, contributing significantly to the field of astronomy and extragalactic research.
