Simon received his PhD from the University of Tasmania in 1996 and became a Professor of Physics in 2015. He was promoted to Dean of the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Western Australia in July 2019 and will serve until March 2024. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and astronomical research domains.
