Biography

Simon Faithfull is a contemporary artist whose work has been extensively exhibited worldwide. His artistry is often described as an attempt to understand and explore the planet through sculptural objects, testing the limits of observation and reporting back from the extremities. Faithfull collaborates with teams of scientists, technicians, and transmission experts to bring a personal vision from the ends of the world. Recent projects include 'Going 1.5', a film recording the disappearance of an island in the North Sea, and 'REEF', a live-video transmitted installation involving a ship sunk to create an artificial reef. Significant solo exhibitions feature Galerie Polaris in Paris (2017) and the British Film Institute in London (2009), while his work has been part of major group shows, including the Venice Biennale (2007). He was born in Oxfordshire, UK, and studied at Central St Martins and Reading University.
