Biography

Simon Finfer is a Professorial Fellow in the Critical Care and Trauma Division at The George Institute for Global Health, as well as a practicing critical care physician. He holds a senior staff specialist position at Royal North Shore Hospital and serves as the Director of Intensive Care at Sydney Adventist Hospital, which is the largest not-for-profit hospital in New South Wales. He is a Clinical Professor at the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney. He has previously chaired the Australian New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group and currently chairs the Council of the International Sepsis Forum while serving as Treasurer for the Global Sepsis Alliance Executive. Finfer is also a member of the World Sepsis Day Steering Committee and co-chaired the 1st World Sepsis Congress, which successfully attracted 14,000 registrants. He has received numerous postgraduate qualifications, including Fellowships from the Royal Colleges of Physicians, Anaesthetists, and Intensive Care Medicine. Finfer was elected to the ANZICS Honour Roll in 2011 and in 2012 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Medicine from Friedrich-Schiller University in Germany. His major research interest focuses on the design and conduct of large-scale randomized controlled trials in critical care, with a commitment to establishing international research collaborations aimed at improving treatment for critically ill and injured patients. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious journals and has been invited to lecture at major international conferences. Additionally, he has served as an editor for the Oxford Textbook of Critical Care and the Critical Care Section of the Oxford Textbook of Medicine, and was a guest editor for the New England Journal of Medicine from 2012 to 2014.
