Dr. Simon Gervais

Biography

Simon Gervais is a Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He joined Fuqua in 2003 after serving as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Gervais earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997. His research focuses on behavioral finance, corporate finance, and financial markets, with publications in leading finance academic journals. His studies specifically explore the effects of behavioral biases on the decisions of firms and individuals, the regulation of financial markets, and the role of financial intermediaries. Gervais has received the Barclays Global Investors/Michael Brennan Award for his paper published in the Review of Financial Studies and has also been recognized for his teaching in both daytime and executive MBA programs. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Financial Intermediation and has held the position of President for the Financial Intermediation Research Society in 2022-2023. Additionally, he served on the Economic Advisory Committee for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority from 2010 to 2016.
