Biography

Simon Granovsky-Larsen is an Associate Professor and Department Head in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Regina. He has a PhD and an MA from York University, and a BA Hon from Dalhousie University. Simon's interdisciplinary research is situated within critical development studies, focusing on environmental conflict, social movements, and political violence particularly in Central America. He is an Associate Fellow at York University's Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean, where he collaborates with universities and social movements in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, and Panama. His research projects investigate human rights and transnational networks across the Americas, conducting fieldwork with grassroots social movement organizations. His work examines environmental conflict, extractivism, and the role of Canada in hemispheric politics. Simon has published extensively, including the 2019 book 'Dealing Peace' with the University of Toronto Press, and teaches courses emphasizing Development Studies within the International Studies program.
