Biography

Simon Henein is an Associate Professor of Microengineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Director of the Micromechanical Horological Design Laboratory (Instant-Lab). He obtained his engineering degree from EPFL in 1996 and completed his doctorate in 2000. In 2001, he published the book "Conception des guidages flexibles," which became a reference in precision engineering. He has held positions at the Centre Suisse d'Electronique et Microtechnique (CSEM) and the Paul Scherrer Institute, where he developed instruments for the Swiss Light Source Synchrotron. Henein's current research focus includes developing new mechanisms in microengineering, with applications in aerospace and medical devices. He has supervised several Ph.D. theses and received multiple awards, including the Best Teacher Award in Microengineering from EPFL in 2023. He has authored numerous publications, including journal articles and patents, contributing to the advancement of mechanical design and applied microtechnology.
