Biography

Prof. Kasif is a co-founder of the Center for Advanced Genomic Technology (CAGT) along with Charles DeLisi. He has also contributed to the Human Genome Consortium, producing the public draft of the human genome. His work in Computational Biology includes co-developing Glimmer, which is widely used as a gene finder, and Mummer, a whole genome comparative alignment system. In the early 1990s, he advocated for the use of Bayesian probabilistic networks in Computational Biology and introduced probabilistic functional linkage networks for gene function prediction. His contributions include early deployment of network signatures for disease, particularly diabetes, as part of I2B2 activities.
