Born and raised in Dublin, Simon Kidd began his philosophy education at University College Dublin (UCD), where he completed his BA in 1988. His degree combined historical thematic approaches to the Western tradition, covering pre-Socratics to twentieth-century analytic and continental philosophers. Apart from metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics, he took courses in logic, aesthetics, philosophical psychology, and political philosophy. He undertook postgraduate research relevant to the philosophy of language development and the concept of ideology, completing his dissertation titled 'Language Ideology: Significance of Hermeneutics, Semiotics, and Theory of Ideology' in 1993 and graduating with an MA in 1994. After moving to Cambridge in 1995 to pursue doctoral research, Kidd developed an interest in comparative philosophy and religion. His work history includes roles as a sessional tutor in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame Australia and the University of Western Australia, where he later became a full-time senior research officer. His ongoing PhD project investigates the design and implementation of the Western Australian 'Philosophy Ethics' ATAR course and its influences and implications.
