Biography

I am based in SE London and hold an undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Glasgow. After a year of exchange at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I completed my PhD on the Romantic-period poet John Clare under Professor John Goodridge at Nottingham Trent University. I returned to Glasgow to teach English Literature after working a couple of years as a Lecturer in Romantic Literature at the University of Dundee. I became a graduate teaching assistant and started as a Lecturer in Romantic Literature at Oxford Brookes University in 2001. After 21 years at Oxford Brookes, I returned to the University of Glasgow in July 2022 as a Professor and Head of the School of Critical Studies.
