Biography

Simon Levin is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University, where he also serves as the Director of the Center for BioComplexity. His research focuses on the structure and functioning of ecosystems, the dynamics of disease, and the coupling of ecological and socioeconomic systems. Levin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, as well as a Foreign Member of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti and the Istituto Lombardo in Milan. With over 500 publications, he has also served as an editor for the Encyclopedia of Biodiversity and the Princeton Guide to Ecology. Levin’s accolades include the Heineken Prize in Environmental Sciences, the Kyoto Prize in Basic Sciences, and numerous awards from scientific societies. His work has significantly contributed to the understanding of ecological conservation and the socio-economic factors influencing biodiversity.
