Biography

Simon Li completed his PhD in Psychology at University College London in 2006 and subsequently joined the Centre for Health Informatics at UNSW, Sydney, now part of Macquarie University, where he undertook a two-year postdoctoral fellowship from 2008 to 2010. He then served as an assistant professor in Hong Kong from 2011 to 2020 before joining the University of Western Australia (UWA). As a research psychologist, Dr. Li specializes in healthcare human factors, aiming to improve the effectiveness and safety of healthcare technology and work practices adopted by healthcare professionals such as doctors and nurses. His research utilizes theories and methods from cognitive psychology to investigate basic science and identify applied problems, conducting clinical simulation studies and laboratory-based experiments to validate findings. His current research projects include auditory displays in healthcare to enhance communication of critical patient information and the use of Explainable AI in healthcare to ensure that AI-generated predictions are clearly communicated to clinicians, thus fostering informed decision-making and trust in technology. Dr. Li is enthusiastic about mentoring motivated students who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies in these innovative fields.
