Biography

Simon Lumsden is an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities and Languages at UNSW. His research primarily focuses on Environmental Philosophy and German Idealism, with a particular interest in Hegel. Before joining UNSW, he was a DAAD research fellow at the Free University of Berlin and held an Australian Research Council Post-Doctoral fellowship at the University of Sydney. In addition to his academic work, Lumsden coordinates the Innerwest Council philosophy talks series held monthly at the Leichhardt Library. He supervises current doctoral research students on topics such as Arendt's theory of friendship and animal ethics. Lumsden has also been involved in various media engagements, including discussions on philosophy and its application to contemporary issues.
