Dr. Simon Malloch

Biography

Simon Malloch is a Bowra Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Wadham College, University of Oxford. He holds a BA(Hons) from the University of Western Australia and a PhD from St John’s College, Cambridge. His academic journey includes appointments in Munich, Cambridge, and the British School at Rome, and he will be moving to Oxford in 2025, after a tenure at the University of Nottingham. Professor Malloch specializes in Latin prose literature, with a particular focus on Roman historians. His research examines the perspectives on language, style, methodology, transmission, and influence within this literature. His interests extend to the literature and history of the late Roman Republic and the early Principate, Roman constitutional history, and the classical tradition, emphasizing the transmission, editing, and textual criticism of Latin texts, as well as palaeography and the history of scholarship. He teaches Latin literature at both undergraduate and graduate levels, contributing to modules in Mods and Greats.
