Biography

Michael Simon is a trained nurse who obtained his PhD from Bergische Universität Wuppertal in 2008. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research assistant professor at the University of Kansas from 2008 to 2011, where he led the Research and Development division of the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators. From 2011 to 2014, he served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Since May 2014, he has been a Professor at the Institute of Nursing Science at the University of Basel, initially as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor. In February 2019, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Nursing Science at the University of Basel. He leads the research group on Patient Safety and Quality of Care INS, examining nursing and care quality across all care settings through intervention and observational studies. He is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Nursing Studies and PeerJ, and he is a Fellow of the European Academy of Nursing Science and the Royal Statistical Society. Additionally, he is a co-leader of SPINE, the Swiss doctoral platform for nursing science.
