Biography

Simon Neame is the dean of University Libraries at the University of Washington, having begun his appointment on September 1, 2021. He leads a network of 16 academic research libraries and the UW Press. With extensive experience in digitization, open access, and preservation of special collections, Neame served as the dean of Libraries at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2016 to 2021, where he oversaw the W.E.B. Du Bois Library and other notable libraries. Prior to that, he was the associate university librarian and director of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia. Throughout his leadership roles, Neame has shown a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, emphasizing the crucial role of libraries in student success and community engagement. He has led initiatives focused on preserving Indigenous knowledge and amplifying the stories of underrepresented communities.
