Dr. Simon Scheider

Biography

Simon Scheider is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. His research focuses on conceptual modeling, geographic data analysis, and knowledge extraction, with a particular interest in the concepts underlying spatio-temporal data. This includes reference systems, fields, spatial objects, processes, events, trajectories, and the practical methods of modeling using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial semantics. He emphasizes knowledge representation and artificial intelligence to support geographic analyses, enabling meaningful geographic statistics and understanding the validity of spatio-temporal modeling. Simon holds a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the University of Muenster, Germany, completed in 2012, and has extensive experience in the field through various research assistant and postdoctoral positions. He has led significant projects, such as the ERC Starting Grant for geographic question answering and is actively involved in collaborative research, including the NWO-funded Exposome-NL project. Simon has been a member of various academic committees and continues to contribute to important conferences in his field.
