Dr. Simon Swift

Biography

Simon Swift is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Geneva. He obtained his BA from Cambridge University and his MA from the University of Leeds, pursuing a PhD at Queen Mary, University of London focused on Immanuel Kant and literary theory. He has held positions as a Lecturer at University College Dublin and has extensive teaching experience in Nineteenth-Century Literature. Swift’s research interests include Modern English Literature and Critical Cultural Theory, with a strong emphasis on aesthetics, political theory, and literary form, particularly concerning Romanticism. He is passionate about bridging the fields of teaching and research and actively engages in conversations about the future of the humanities. He is involved in various projects, including the “Landscapes of the Mind,” aimed at fostering creativity among refugees in the natural beauty of Switzerland. Swift has published several books and essays, exploring themes of Romanticism, literature, and philosophy, and is committed to the principles of equitable and transparent public education.
