Simon Wijte is a full professor in the Sustainment Concrete Structures research group at the Department of the Built Environment. His research focuses on the structural possibilities of reusing concrete structures and elements, a crucial aspect of circular construction. He aims to achieve a sustainable use of concrete structures and leads the ReCreate project funded by Horizon 2020, which strives to close the loop on precast concrete through optimal utilization, facilitating the deconstruction and reuse of precast elements. He has investigated the structural quality of concrete floors constructed from precast plates, specifically for the parking garage at Eindhoven Airport, with the goal of creating a tool to assess their structural reliability. With a Master’s degree from Eindhoven University of Technology obtained in 1989, he holds extensive experience in forensic engineering and in assessing existing concrete structures. He is a member of both national and international standards committees in the field of concrete masonry, serving as chairman of 'TGB Betonconstructies' and a member of the CEN TC250/SC2 committee, which is involved in the revision of Eurocode 2 for the design of concrete structures. Additionally, he is part of the NEN working group responsible for NPR 9998, the Dutch Code of Practice for seismic structural design in the Northeast Netherlands.
