Simon Williams is an Associate Professor and ARC Future Fellow at the Australian National University, specializing in the fields of structural biology and synthetic biology. He holds a PhD in Protein Biochemistry from Flinders University, awarded in April 2010. His doctoral research was conducted at the School of Biological Sciences, where he focused on understanding the activation mechanisms of plant innate immune receptors. Following his PhD, he completed postdoctoral research at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Professor Bostjan Kobe, where he led initiatives in plant-microbe interactions for over six years. In 2015, he was awarded the Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) by the Australian Research Council, which allowed him to join the Research School of Biology at ANU. His research interests include studying fungal pathogenesis and plant immunity, utilizing various techniques in structural biology and synthetic biology. Simon’s laboratory is dedicated to understanding the molecular basis of fungal diseases affecting plants, and he has successfully secured funding to establish and support his research program.
