Biography

Ying Kai (Simon) Yap is a Lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance at Monash University, Australia. He received his Ph.D. in Finance from RMIT University in 2025. His research interests focus on empirical corporate banking finance, bankruptcy, peer effects, and the information environment. His work has been published in journals such as the Financial Review, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Economics Letters, and Applied Economics. In addition to his disciplinary research, he is actively involved in educational research innovation aimed at enhancing student learning outcomes through scalable approaches and personalized feedback. He has received multiple internal teaching and research grant awards, including the Dean’s Award for Early Career Teaching Excellence in 2019 and the Dean’s Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning in 2023. Simon is committed to teaching various finance courses including Corporate Finance, Finance Society, Business Finance, and Financial Management Theory, among others.
