Biography

Simona Marincean is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Michigan State University. Her doctoral research, supervised by Prof. James E. ‘Ned’ Jackson, focused on hybridic-to-protonic hydrogen bonding. Following her doctorate, she conducted postdoctoral research at Michigan State University, delving into catalytic hydrogenolysis in carbohydrates and related polyols. Since joining the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2007, her research has centered around molecular-level investigations of noncovalent interactions and redox processes to develop diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in health. Prof. Marincean's laboratory investigates redox reactions, synthesizing and characterizing novel riboflavin derivatives, and assessing their applications in health and environmental contexts. She also emphasizes modern teaching methodologies in organic chemistry, ensuring that students grasp the critical mechanisms underlying organic reactions, particularly in interdisciplinary areas like biochemistry and medicinal chemistry.
